New Focus, New Haircut!

I can't believe I did it, but I finally chopped my hair.  As part of me revamping and refocusing my life, I decided to go for a more "grown up" look for my hair.

This picture was taken on my first day at my new job.  I love the look of my hair and how pretty it is, but it was taking me WAY too much time in the morning to get ready and I was beginning to really feel the lack of sleep.

So, I decided to cut some time out in the morning and chop my hair! It was such a thrilling, yet scary, feeling when she did the first cut on the back of my head.  I seriously felt she had cut a chunk of y hair, and she had! There was so much hair when wer were done, my lovely hairstylist, Stacey, said it looked like we maimed a Yorkie dog. Can you believe how much hair that is? I wish I could have donated it, but it was not quite long enough to get donated. *frown*

I love the new hairdo and it is definitely a time saver to have my hair cut like this! PLUS, I have gotten large amounts of compliments on the new do. I am really looking forward to seeing all of the new things I can do with my short hair and trying out a bunch of different ways to style it.

Another exciting thing that is happening this week is the start of graduate school! I have my very first class this evening and could not be more nervous/excited to start. The perfect way to to describe my nerves is the feeling you get as you are going up the hill of a rollercoaster.  You are excited to be on the ride, nervous for the drop, and cannot wait for the ball to get rolling!

My outlook on graduate school is that it will be a new and exciting adventure! I have been waiting since I got accepted into Wayne State which is like the hill of the roller coaster and today I finally get to go over the hill and experience the excitement of going "down the hill"!

Justin and I are heading to the U.P. tomorrow evening, so I will definitely have some fun stuff to share with you all! And I will have to talk about how my first day of school went!

So here is my question of the day:
  • What exciting things in your life are you anticipating like the excitement of a rollercoaster?
  • What other euphesisms would you use to describe exciting events in your life?

Blog Refocus

Hey All!

Sorry it has been so long since my last post! As you could see from reading my last post, my life has been super chaotic the last few weeks and will continue to be for the next month or so.  Which is great! I love to be busy!

However, it has come to my attention that I will not be able to continue training for the 1/2 marathon like I had originally planned and therefore, this blog has lost it's original purpose and has become moot.

Which leads me to my next topic!
Refocusing!
I have been having a pity party for myself that I will not be able to run the 1/2 marathon in September as planned and, unfortunatly, it has really been getting me down.  However, I have decided that it is time to refocus my life and my energies into doing positive things and living with a positive attitude for my day-to-day experiences.  AND to find a new 1/2 marathon to run sometime next year!

This blog will still have information about training for a 1/2 marathon and how that is going, but it will also be focusing on how to live a better all-around life.  It will focus on how to go about maintaining better relationships with family and friends, how to cook the healthiest recipes, how to refocus your attitude when you are down and how to live life to the very fullest.

My goal is to start next month off by working on my first major negativity in my life: Complaining.  I will be working on ways to take the negativity of complaining out and putting exciting happy feelings in.  On top of working on that particular negativity, I will be sharing all of the fun and exciting things that I partake in throughout the month with you all and how those events positively or negatively impact my life!

I am really looking forward to REFOCUSING my life and my blog and sharing in that experience with you!

New Job, SUPER Busy

Hey All!

So as I mentioned on Saturday, I had planned on going to run on Sunday.  WELLLLL, that never happened.  We ended up going to Ikea to look for a new kitchen table because ours was too large and we ended up giving it away to Justin's co-worker.  I have to say our kitchen looks rather large without the table in there.

The trip to Ikea was rather exciting because Justin and his parents have never been there before and it was a treat for them.  I would have to say that I was rather overwhelmed with ALL of the stuff they have in that store.  It seriously feels like it is NEVER ENDING, but they have great products at pretty darn good prices.

We ended up buying a few things here and there for storage and did find our table! However, we did not buy it while we were there.  We wanted to make sure to have enough money to buy the table and at least two chairs and on that day we did not.

That was the exciting end to our weekend!

As promised, I said I would post about my new job.
This is the building I am working in now! It is in downtown Detroit and it's called the Renaissance Center! I work in one of the 5 towers on the 11th floor and it has been pretty amazing! So far in my first week and a half I have not accomplished too much because I am in the process of learning the routine and the schedules of everyone and how the office generally works.  That and my boss has been on vacation since last Friday.

This is me on my first day.  Take a good hard look at my long hair because I am getting ready to get it cut shorter! That won't be happening this week because I just haven't had time to make an appointment.

While I am loving the job so far and have been enjoying being super busy, I am also starting to get frustrated with the inability to train.  My two options for training are these: get up at 5:00am and go run to get my workout in before work OR try to go when I get back from work.  Unfortunately, I am by no means a morning person.  In fact, I am the antithesis of a morning person.  I would rather sleep the extra 30 minutes than get my butt up and look good. So getting up at 5:00am is really not the best option for me.

On the other side is working out in the evenings.  The biggest issue I have been facing is the lack of energy.  I cannot seem to, for the life of me, muster up the energy to drag my butt to the gym after I have gotten home from work.  I think the biggest issue I am facing is that I get home from work between 5-6, cook dinner, pick up the house if necessary and then I finally get a chance to sit down.  Sitting down is what is doing me in.  If I could keep going, I honestly think I could probably muster up enough energy to go to the gym and work out.

The blessing of being married to my husband is that he has been working dilligently to make my life less stressful by helping out around the house.  He has even gone as far as to suggest purchasing me a treadmill so that I do not have to go to the gym in the evening but could just get my run in when I am at home.  I might just have to take up his idea and get myself set up in the basement.

Maybe.

Well, I gotta head back to work, but I figured I would check in since I promised I would.

Over and Out.

North, South, EAST, West

Hey All!

Wow, the last 2 1/2 weeks have been absolutely chaotic and I've loved every moment of it! On July 25th, Justin and I headed out to Vermont for the beginning of our summer vacation! The beginning of our trip was dedicated to going to my friends wedding.

Doesn't she look beautiful?! This was us before her wedding ceremony.  It was such a beautiful night with the rolling hills in the background and the beautiful Capitol Plaza in the historic, capital city of Vermont.  After the ceremony was complete we all hopped into the limousine and went to get some pictures taken at the capital building.  I REALLY look forward to seeing her pictures because they were a blast to take.

After our visit to Montpelier we headed out to visit some family members! For 2 days we stayed in Vernon, Vermont to visit with Justin's aunt, uncle and cousin which was good because I ended up being sick while we were there.  From our relaxing visit in Vernon, we headed out to Boston to visit with my dad! We did all kinds of fun things while we were there like go to Cape Cod, go clamming at Duxbury Beach, and saw the Red Sox play the Tigers at the beautiful Fenway Park!

After our quick visit to Boston, we headed down to Phillie to visit with Justin's cousin.  This was the last portion of our trip, so we made sure to spend some time relaxing before we came back to Michigan.

While we were in Phillie, we made it a point to go see the Phillies play at Citizens Bank Park.  We have an ultimate goal to go see a professional baseball game at every park in the U.S. and this was the beginning of our adventure!

On Sunday, we headed back to Michigan to get ready to go back to work, or in my case, start a new job on Monday! I will have to do another post regarding the new position another day!

I wanted to give an update on my training for the 1/2 marathon because I obviously have not been training for over a month now.  As of tomorrow, we will be 8 weeks away from the 1/2 marathon, and I am beginning to seriously doubt that I will be able to do the race.  HOWEVER, I will be starting my training back up tomorrow in order to see how far behind I feel from not training.  Once I get the general idea of how bad off I am, I will make my final decision on the race.  If I do not feel I can do the one at the end of September, I will be looking for one in the Spring to race in.

Well, that is all for now.

Over and Out.
