July Book Review

Happy Tuesday Friends! I hope your week got off to a great start and you have exciting things planned for this week.

For 2016, I have decided that it is important for me to take the time to read books... I know, I know, I say this every year, but this year I promise will be different!

The goal is to each month, read a random assortment of books and share a few thoughts about the book (but not too much as I don't want to spoil the fun for anyone).  I love reading and I love sharing books with you guys.

Plus, this is a great opportunity for you all to share some of your awesome reads with me!

If you want to follow/friend me on Goodreads, click here.

And you can keep track all year long by clicking 2016 Books at the top of my blog.  I will keep a running list of books right there for you.

Okay, time for the books I've read // currently reading in July!

The first book I read in July was The Last Star by Rick Yancey.  This is the third book in The 5th Wave Series and I honestly was sad to see it come to an end.  I will say that off the three books I enjoyed this one the most because of how many twists and turns the book took.  I honestly was on the edge of my seat for the last 20 or so chapters of the book and I am looking forward to checking out what other books Rick Yancey has written.

The second book I read in July was What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty.  This book came highly recommended by my cousin Kellie (we've been trading books a lot lately!) and she nailed this one on the head.  I had heard of Liane Moriarty before with her book The Husbands Secret.  What Alice Forgot is not something that I would typically pick for myself because I tend to stick to Young Adult books, but I am glad that I took the time to read this one.  The book centers around Alice who has suffered a head injury and cannot remember the last ten years of her life - and a LOT has happened in those ten years.  I will say, the book starts a little slower than I prefer, so if you need a book that grabs you from the first page, I would maybe pass on this one.

If you are interested in purchasing these books, check them out on Amazon by clicking the images below!

Books I purchased in July:

On thing I wanted to start doing is tracking when I purchased books.  This will help me track how long I had a book before I actually read the book.  While on a trip to Costco a few weeks ago, I picked up Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and Summer Sisters by Judy Blume.  Justin had taken me to see Me Before You last month and I really enjoyed the movie, so I thought it may be fun to read the book.  And I love Judy Blume, so I just picked up Summer Sisters on a whim.  I will have to let you know what I think when I finish them!

Well that is all for my books for July!

To check out the other books I have read this year, check out my 2016 Books tab at the top of my page or check out my reading list on Goodreads! If you have a Goodreads account, make sure to add me because I am always on the hunt for a good book recommendation.

Question of the Day: What good books are you currently reading?

I'd love to hear from you!

Weekend Highs & Lows #37

Hello everyone!I hope you had a wonderful weekend filled with fun and exciting adventures  If you want more information about the party, please check out this post.

Happy Monday friends! I am so sorry I disappeared for a week.  I had so many things I had to get done last week that the time just got away from me! I'm hopping back onto the train this week.

Highs:

This weekend was actually on the low key side, so we did not have a lot going on.  On Friday night, we went out hunting for Pokemon with our friend, Nick.  We actually tried a new location and were able to add some pretty cool Pokemon to our collection.  I also took over my first gym! I didn't hold it more than 12 hours, but it was still fun.

Saturday we slept in, then in the afternoon I headed out to a CycleBar event! They are opening two new locations in the Metro Detroit Area so I met up with some blogger friends to give it a try! I loved the class and fully intent to head back there shortly! More on CycleBar to come later this week.  Saturday evening Nick and Kevin came over and we had a chill evening at the house.

Sunday Justin and I hung out at home before heading out to the mall for a few hours.  I met up with a few of my cousins to shop and catch some Pokemon.  After the mall we ran to Target to grab a few things before heading home for the evening.  My friend Vicki came over for a few hours to see the house and just catch up.

Lows:

My asthma was SO bad this weekend.  I think it is from the big heat wave we've been having.

Last 5 Things I've Bought: July

Happy Wednesday Friends! I hope you are having a wonderful week and are looking forward to an exciting rest of the week!

Every now and then I like to do these random posts about the last five things I purchased and this seemed like the perfect time to share what I've purchased recently!

A NEW HOUSE!
I know I have really not posted much about the house but we are homeowners and have lived in the house for almost 2 months! It is crazy how quickly those few months have gone by and we already have planned our housewarming party mid-August! I promise I will do a home tour when our house feels a little more put together and I wouldn't be horribly embarrassed by the mess.

*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*
Summer Sisters by Judy Blume & Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
I went to Costco with my mom a few weeks ago and decided to pick up these books while I was there.  Justin took me to see Me Before You a few weeks ago and I loved the movie.  But of course, it's always better to read a book first, so I decided it was time to grab the book and read it.  Of course, mom is reading it first then we are going to trade books.

I saw The Summer Sisters book on the shelf and decided to just go ahead and grab it because it looked like a good summer read.  Hopefully I end up loving both books when I can get around to reading them.

I am so excited because Justin's parents surprised me with a pair of Tieks for a belated birthday gift! I have been wearing the same pair of black flats to work for easily 2-3 years and have been desperately needing a new pair.  Tieks have been floating around Pinterest for a while and I've been having an internal debate about whether or not they are worth the price.

Well, surprise to me! I have only had the chance to wear them a few times, but so far I love them! they are already confirming to my foot and feel so comfortable.  Plus, they travel well in a purse or suitcase.

*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*
Qupid Cutout Philly Bootie from Zulily
When it comes to shoes, I am typically picky, but when these popped up as a Zulily Item, I knew that I had to buy them.  I do not have many short booties at home and thought this would be a great addition to my collection for this upcoming fall.  I believe this color is sold out, but they are available in Black! Go to the Zulily site and search for Cutout Philly Bootie.

*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*
Last Wednesday I got together with my mom for our weekly mother/daughter dinner and she had something to return to Carson's.  While we were there, I saw this purse as we walked into the store and I fell in love.  It was on sale for $275.99 which was a lot more than I wanted to pay, but my mom had a coupon that was good for designer stuff, so I was able to get it down to $175.  BUT, they were having this deal that you got 2 $20 off $50 cards with every purchase, so between my mom and I we racked up enough to get $100 off the purse.  So I bought it Wednesday, but knew I couldn't use it until Friday/Saturday when I could get a price adjustment.

Saturday morning, I went back to the store and guess what! The purse went on sale even more so I ended up paying $90 for this purse! I cannot believe it! And it's perfect for me!

Highs:

This weekend was definitely more on the chill side.  I loved being able to just relax and spend time around the house.  Saturday morning we got up early to have the sprinkler guys come and work on the system because it was installed improperly.  In the afternoon, Justin and I took Leilah to the vet to get her shots updated.  She didn't seem too thrilled about being there, but she handled the visit like a champ.

Saturday afternoon was spent at my mom's house working on a knitting project for my cousin's baby.  I cannot wait to give it to her once it's done!

Saturday evening, Nick came over and we went around catching Pokemon until 1:30am! It was so fun seeing all of the people out and about catching Pokemon and the weather was SO nice! It honestly would have been perfect for a bonfire and s'mores!

Sunday morning we slept in before having pancakes and catching up some on our DVR before I went to a family reunion for my mom's side of the family.  We spent the afternoon playing volleyball, hanging out and just generally enjoying each other's company.  It was super nice!

Sunday evening Justin and I went to get some paint samples before going to Art Van to shop for some stuff for our house.  After shopping, we went to dinner at Outback! Yay for an unplanned date night.

Lows:

My mom fainted on Saturday while she was out and about.  She is okay now, but it was a little scary.

Highs:

This weekend was rather slow for us and I am so glad! On Friday night, I went to get sushi with some of my girlfriends so we can start planning our trip to Traverse City next month! I cannot wait to get away for a long weekend with some lovely ladies.

After sushi I ran home to meet up with Justin, Nick and Kevin before heading out to see The Secret Life of Pets.  I have to say that I really enjoyed this movie - almost as much as I enjoyed Finding Dory.  The movie has a lot of funny scenes that cater to both adults and children.

Saturday morning I got myself up early to go for a training run with Christina.  After 4 miles, we grabbed breakfast at Panera bread.  I tried one of their breakfast power sandwiches and boy was it delicious.  After breakfast, I went to the gym and did my workouts from Friday and Saturday before heading out to yoga with Sarah and Jeanne.  Yoga is one of those workouts that I am never too keen on, but this particular session was so uplifting.

Saturday evening and Sunday we spent cleaning up around the house and unpacking boxes.

Lows:

No lows here! Just had a relaxing weekend at home which is exactly what we needed.

Currently: July 2016

Happy Thursday Friends! I hope your week has been going well so far and you are looking forward to some fun plans this weekend! Today I am doing another fun round of "currently".  I came across this idea on Becca Dorr's Blog - you should check her out!

ANTICIPATING The first weekend in August I am going to Traverse City with some friends and I cannot wait! I have not been there is a long time so I am getting excited about the weekend getaway with friends and seeing a different side of the state for a change.

CLEANING Constantly.  We are still in the process of unpacking everything, so it feels like every time I turn around, I am cleaning something.  Thankfully we have a goal to get every.single.box unpacked by the end of the month so I won't be doing this much longer!

DREADING Honestly, I don't think I am dreading anything right now.  Life has been pretty exciting and I have been focusing on all of the wonderful things happening lately that every day feels like an adventure.

DRINKING Iced coffee and water.  With adding more workouts into my day, I have been more tired than usual.  So of course, the natural thing is to have coffee, right? I finally tried my favorite Starbucks drink iced and I am hooked.  I love getting a Zebra Mocha (non-fat with whip) iced! It makes my day.  If I am not drinking my mocha, I am drinking water.  No more pop for this lady.

FEELING Excited! We have a ton of fun things planned this month and I am excited to do everything! I love getting together with our friends and enjoying each other's company.  So this month will be so much fun.

LISTENING Backstreet Boys Pandora radio.  Sarah picked the Backstreet Boys station for the 4th of July and ever since then I have been jamming to the music of my childhood.  I love all of the good memories this Pandora Station brings.

PLAYING Angry Birds! After we saw the Angry Birds movie I ended up downloading the game and have been playing it ever since then.  #guiltypleasure

READING For June I read The Heir and The Crown by Keira Cass.  In July I am planning to  read  the final book in The 5th Wave Series, The Last Star.  I am also reading For the Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards by Jen Hatmaker.

RECOVERING I have been working out almost every day since The Bikini Series Challenge #2 started, so I have been trying to let my body recover from the beating I have been putting it through.  Protein and potassium are my main diet right now.

TRYING new foods! One of the good things about trying a new workout/diet is that I am being exposed to recipes and foods that I might not have otherwise done.  Thankfully, I have only found one thing that I really did not like.  I am looking forward to finding more things to incorporate into my diet!

WAITING to find out if we owe taxes or will be getting anything back.  I am hoping that we paid more into escrow than we needed and will be able to get some money back.  We will see! Fingers crossed.

WEARING So much workout clothing! I actually bought a few workout capris and a tank top from Kohl's the other day and cannot wait for them to come in the mail! Check out the links here, here and here.

Question of the Day: What do you have going on "currently"?

I'd love to hear from you!

July: Month @ a Glance

Happy July Friends!

I hope you have had a great first half of your week and had a wonderful relaxing weekend! For the 4th of July we spent the day at my in-law's pool enjoying great company and great food.  Exactly how I would have wanted to spend the day!

Can you believe the month is already half over? Where has the time gone?!

Things Happening This Month
  1. 4th of July Festivities
  2. Sushi with the Girls
  3. Yoga Date with the Girls
  4. 4H Fair with Justin and friends
  5. Spy Party
  6. Family Reunion
  7. Insane Inflatable 5k
  8. Cyclebar Event
  9. Mother/Daughter Date (possibly)
  10. Salsa Dancing

Goals This Month

1. Read {at least} one book.  I finally finished all of the books in The Selection Series, so it is time to move onto something else! I have already started The Last Star by Rick Yancey.  This is the final book in The 5th Wave Series and so far I am really enjoying it! I have also started reading For the Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards by Jen Hatmaker.  This book was recommended to me at the SMASH 48 Retreat this year, and tonight we are having our first get together to talk about the book! If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh and give you some time with Jesus, I would recommend this one.

2. Daily Scripture Writing.  I swear my  Erin Condren notebook helped me so much last monght! So this month I am going to continue working on my scriptures.

3. Fitness Challenges.  Last week I started the Tone It Up Bikini Series with my girlfriends and I have been going strong so far! I also joined a DietBet and have a goal to lose 8 pounds by July 24th.  So far I am down 2 pounds, so I just have to keep the momentum going!

Recap from June

1. Read {at least} One Book.  For May I managed to finish The Heir and The Crown from Kiera Cass.  I had planned to read The Heir, The Crown and What Alice Forgot so I think overall I did okay with only finishing the two books while moving into a new house.

2. Daily Scripture Writing.  I managed to do all but the last three days of June so I would consider that a big win! I will just plan to make those three days up then continue onto July!

3. Plan a Date with Justin.  I do not believe Justin and I did a one-on-one date with each other in June, but we did do a couple of double dates with some friends! We went to putt putt and froyo with Christina and Ryan and got together with Nick and Kevin.

Question of the Day: What fun things do you have planned in July?

I'd love to hear from you!
