September Reads

Happy Tuesday Friends! I hope your week got off to a great start and you have exciting things planned for this week.

For 2016, I have decided that it is important for me to take the time to read books... I know, I know, I say this every year, but this year I promise will be different!

The goal is to each month, read a random assortment of books and share a few thoughts about the book (but not too much as I don't want to spoil the fun for anyone).  I love reading and I love sharing books with you guys.

Plus, this is a great opportunity for you all to share some of your awesome reads with me!

If you want to follow/friend me on Goodreads, click here.

And you can keep track all year long by clicking 2016 Books at the top of my blog.  I will keep a running list of books right there for you.

Okay, time for the books I've read // currently reading in September!

With the movie coming out this Friday, I knew I needed to read the book! Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is a book that dabbles in the fantastical, adventurous, the past and the present.  I was immediately drawn to the story and trying to figure out the truth behind his grandfather's stories, because there is no way they were true, is there? You will have to find out for yourself! I also cannot wait to start reading the second book!!

I tried starting reading The Light Between Oceans back in March and just could not get into the book.  This time around, I decided to listen to the book on tape and it was a little better than trying to just read the book.  The story is very complicated and throughout the book, I just generally felt sorry for both of the main characters.  If you have seen the movie, but have not read the book, I would suggest reading the book first as there are a few discrepancies between the movie and the book.

I just started this book on Sunday, so I am not too far into to the book.  The Rule of Thoughts is the sequel to The Eye of Minds and so far I am enjoying the second book as much as I am the first.  I am curious how Dashner is going to tie in the previous story to this one and I am excited to see how he develops the characters this time around as they are meeting in person for the first time ever.  If you like sci-fi or dystopian stories, I would check this one out for sure.

Well that is all for my books for September!

To check out the other books I have read this year, check out my 2016 Books tab at the top of my page or check out my reading list on Goodreads! If you have a Goodreads account, make sure to add me because I am always on the hunt for a good book recommendation.

Question of the Day: What good books are you currently reading?

I'd love to hear from you!

Happy Autumn Everyone!

Happy Thursday friends! I hope your week has been going well and you are looking forward to some fun things this coming weekend! Right now we are planning to go to the Renaissance Festival and then hanging out around the house for the weekend.

But on a more exciting note, today is the First day of Autumn or the Autumn Equinox! I am a huuugeeee fan of Fall, so I have been anxiously awaiting the "official" arrival of all things fall and I am looking forward to enjoying all of the wonderful things that come along with the Fall.

In Michigan, Autumn means cooler weather, changing leaves, cider and donuts, pumpkins and fresh picked apples.  For the last several years, we have made it a point to go apple picking and we have a plan to go October 9th to pick apples with out friends.

So what does Fall mean to you? I hope you are just as excited as I am for the Fall!

Question of the Day: What are you looking forward to this Fall?

If you are a lover of all things television, check out my Fall TV Preview post for a fun few ideas of shows to watch this Fall.

I'd love to hear from you!

THE LAST MAN ON EARTH

THE BIG BANG THEORY

It is hard to believe that they are starting their 10th season already! I am excited to see what this season brings for each character and to see if Raj finally finds the right woman for himself.

THIS IS US

Premieres: Tuesday September 20th on NBC

Could it be? Do we have a Parenthood replacement? This show looks like it could be one that could make me cry for sure!

SPEECHLESS

Premieres: Wednesday September 21st on ABC

I am super excited to watch this show! It looks like it will make you laugh and pull at your heart strings all at once

DESIGNATED SURVIVOR

Premieres: Wednesday September 21st on ABC

Jack Bauer Kiefer Sutherland is sworn in as President after an explosion kills the President and all members of the Cabinet.

GILMORE GIRLS: A YEAR IN THE LIFE

I am so excited to watch this show!  I even planned a Gilmore Girls Viewing Party and invited a bunch of my friends that also love the show!

SCREAM QUEENS

Premieres: Tuesday September 20th on Fox

If you like scary, humorous weirdness, you should watch this show.  I will say it took me a little time to get into the first season, but by the end I was hooked.

OTHER SHOWS I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCHING

Family Guy

New Girl

Dancing with the Stars - Did you see the premiere last week?! Crazy

Project Runway - Also premiered last week! The first challenge was crazy!

Well that's all of the shows I could think of that are coming out this Fall! I am sure there are other shows that will be amazing and will catch my eye.

Weekend Highs & Lows #43

Hello everyone!I hope you had a wonderful weekend filled with fun and exciting adventures  If you want more information about the party, please check out this post.

Happy Monday Friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! This weekend was a bit chaotic for us, but we had a wonderful time!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Highs:

On Friday night, I went to see my cousin dance at the half time portion of her highs school football game.  It was so great watching her dance and spending time with the family.

Saturday we had our 4th Annual Fort Sleepover! It was so much fun having the fort at our house for the first time ever! This year we had to get a little bit more creative because the entire layout was different.  But it turned out super awesome! I will make an entire post around this later this week.

Sunday was a chill day - I actually spent most of the day in the fort and caught up on laundry and other things around the house.

Lows:

During the for sleepover, one of the girls cars was rifled through and she had a few items stolen from her car.  I am not sure why only her car was hit, but it would appear that someone was going around the neighborhood hitting cars that were unlocked.  What an unfortunate way to end a fun night.

Stranded with.... Movies Edition

Happy Wednesday Friends! I hope all is well and you are having a great day so far! Today I am teaming up with Shay and Erika for a fun new series called "Stranded With" where you discuss three things you would take if you were stranded on deserted island.

For today's series, we are focusing on....

Movies!

Honestly, when I was thinking about which movies I would want to bring with me, I really had a hard time narrowing it down to just three movies.  Justin and I are huge movie lovers, so I had to think back to the movies I've seen and if I would want to watch them repeatedly when stranded on a deserted island.

So here are my three picks of movies I would watch repeatedly!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The Perks of Being a Wallflower was one of the first movies to pop into my head when I started thinking about movies I would want to watch.  At this point, I think I have seen this movie a half dozen times, so I know that I would like to watch it more than once.  This movie touches on the complexities of growing up - being in high school, having depression, sexual abuse, everything.  And it does it in a way that touches into the deep parts of the heart.  I chose this one to be my "sad" movie that I could watch whenever I needed a good cry.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Okay, so I had to put Monty Python and the Holy Grail on my list because this movie just cracks me up.  This movie comes up in conversation on a regular basis in my life because it is so quotable.  And the older I get, the funnier I seem to think the movie to be.  This movie would be specifically reserved for when I need a pick me up and to just be all around silly.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The last movie I chose was Spy.  Have you seen this one? Oh my goodness it is so funny.  Melissa McCarthy is just so hilarious and awkward throughout the whole movie that I found myself laughing to the point of tears on more than one occasion.  I picked this movie because it just makes me flat out laugh and I always feel good after I have finished watching the movie.

  *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

So those are the three movies I would take with me if given only three choices! It would appear I prefer comedy more than anything, so at least we know I would be laughing while I was stranded on the island.

To read what other people are saying, check out the link up on Mix and Match Mama's blog today!

Up Next on Stranded With....

Halloween Candy

Question of the Day: What three movies would you take with you to a remote island?

I'd love to hear from you!

Stuck in an Elevator....

Happy Tuesday friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and you are looking forward to some fun things this week! The weather is lovely here and I have been enjoying breaking out my fall clothes and shoes and of course all of the fall drinks at Starbucks.

Today I wanted to share with you another fun prompt from The Sits Girls and their monthly writing prompts.  Every now and then I check out their prompts to see what fun things that have suggested and I thought this one would be a fun topic to share!

For today's post we are going to talk about if I was stuck in an elevator, who would I want to be stuck with?

Honestly, if I was stuck in an elevator, I might freak out just a little bit.  I do not do well in small places unless I have windows to look out of.  Thankfully, my work has all glass elevators and they move quickly so if the elevator would to get stuck I would be in good shape even if I was stuck by myself at work.

But when it comes to being stuck with someone in an elevator, I think I would want my husband to be there with me.  Not only is he a generally calm person, he knows what to do to keep me calm when I am having a freak out of any kind.  On top of keeping me calm, he is easy to talk to so we could just sit and talk for a while until we were able to get out of the elevator.

But honestly, getting stuck in an elevator would totally suck but we are surrounded by technology.  It would be easy to grab my phone and watch something on YouTube or spend some time catching up on Facebook while I waited for someone to come and get me.

Question of the Day: Who would you want to have stuck in an elevator with you?

I'd love to hear from you!

Weekend Highs & Lows #42

Hello everyone!I hope you had a wonderful weekend filled with fun and exciting adventures  If you want more information about the party, please check out this post.

Happy Monday Friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! This weekend was a bit chaotic for us, but we had a wonderful time!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Highs:

We finally had a break in the weather and it was perfect out on Sunday.

Saturday I went shopping with my mom and grabbed a few small things when I was out.  I've put myself on a strict budget for the next few months, but when I came across a  plaid shirt that was super soft and comfortable, I could not pass it up.

Saturday afternoon/evening I spent visiting with my best friend, Sarah.  Life has been so chaotic lately that we have not gotten to just sit down and talk.  Thankfully Saturday allowed us to just sit and talk for several hours - I mean like 4-5 hours.  It was great to just catch up and hear about all of her big plans coming up in a few months! I love how much she pushes herself and how much she works toward her dreams.

Lows:

I think the only "low" was the fact that I didn't get to do my long run on Saturday.  We had some crazy weather that just made it impossible for us to go out and run.

Friday Inspiration

Happy Friday Friends! I hope you had a wonderful week and have some fun an exciting plans for this weekend! Tonight we are having our Third Annual Fort Sleepover! I am super excited for the girls to come over and build another awesome fort in my living room.  #theinnerchildlives

Isn't this meme great? I laughed really hard when I saw it and had to share it with you all.  I know, I'm childish, but I think farts are hilarious and I am sure that more than one will be shared with the group tonight.

Lately, I have been dealing with a ton of internal negative dialogue, so I started pinning a ton of inspirational quotes.  Thankfully, they have been helping me out, so I figured I would share some with you all that have helped me this week (and will continue helping in the future).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
{This one has been really hitting home for me this week}
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The quote about evaluating your words before they come from your mouth has been sticking in my mind this week.  I have a tendency to say things out of frustration // anger then end up getting myself in trouble.  The worse part is I do not realize I am doing it until, oftentimes, it is too late.  So to keep myself on track, I made that image the background on my phone.

I want my life to be filled with purpose, and part of that is making sure that my words and my actions are deliberate.  I do not want to walk through life willy-nilly ~ I want to be filled with purpose.

Anyway! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to hearing what fun things you did over the weekend at the Weekend Highs and Lows linky party on Monday

Question of the Day: What is your favorite inspirational quote?

I'd love to hear from you!

Currently: September 2016

Happy Thursday Friends! I hope your week has been going well so far and you are looking forward to some fun plans this weekend! Today I am doing another fun round of "currently".  I came across this idea on Becca Dorr's Blog - you should check her out!

ANTICIPATING: The cooler weather! With Fall just around the corner, I am really looking forward to wearing leggings, boots and scarves.  Fall is my favorite season and I have been so excited to break out all of my fall clothes.  In fact, I am having Justin hang some racks for me so I can get my scarves organized!

CLEANING: So much laundry.  No matter how much laundry I complete, I feel like I am constantly doing more.  Justin and I are going to purge some clothing so hopefully that will help, but the biggest thing is doing one load of laundry a day instead of doing 4-5 in one day.

DREADING: All of the colds that happen this time of year.  We are still experiencing some very warm weather so the allergens are staying away, but as soon as it cools off allergies will kick in and colds will start happening.

DRINKING: I have been drinking a ton of Gatorade and water the last few weeks.  Trying to stay hydrated after being sick.

FEELING: Excited! Our annual fort sleepover is a week from Saturday and it will be the first time we are having it at the new house.  I am excited to see how this year goes since we are in a new location! I bet it will be even more epic than years past.

LISTENING: Currently I am listening to The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman on Audible and it is SO good.  I am about halfway through the book and I am riveted.  Be looking for my review at the end of the month once I get a chance to finish the book.

PLAYING: Last month Justin and I got a Nintendo 3DS in Red and I have been addicted to it.  As a kid I loved playing my GameBoy and this takes me back to the hours of Super Mario and Kirby that I played when I was a kid.  The best part? They have versions of both of those games for the 3DS that I can play now.

READING: Right now I am still reading What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty.  I am also planning to read Miss Peregine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs before the movie comes out on September 30th.

RECOVERING: For the past week or so, I have been recovering from a stomach bug.  It has been tearing through the office and several people have been sick over the past few weeks.  I was one of it's victims and have been recovering from the bug.

TRYING: To get more organized.  Lately I've been feeling a little overwhelmed at home and realized it is because things are a bit disorganized.  Part of the problem is I just do not have space to put things and another part of the problem is the fact that we are not done unpacking.  Hopefully things will get moving soon and we will be a little more settled in the near future.

WAITING: Justin and I ordered our dining room table last week and it is going to take 8-10 weeks to arrive.  I cannot wait for it to come in so we can start decorating that space.  Right now it is just empty and does not have anything in it.  I am really hoping we are able to get it decorated before Thanksgiving.

WEARING: My booties! I am so excited that it is fall and I can wear some boots and booties.  I picked up these booties from Zulily and love them!

Question of the Day: What do you have going on "currently"?

I'd love to hear from you!
