The Morrie + a $50 Giveaway!

Disclosure: I received a free meal at The Morrie in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions expressed are my own.

Happy Tuesday Friends! I hope your week has been going well and you are looking forward to some fun events this week! Justin and I are hopping on a plane and heading to Florida tomorrow so I am looking forward to some warmer weather and a bit of relaxation!

For today's post, I wanted to share with you a little bit about The Morrie! The Morrie is a local Metro Detroit restaurant that I was able to try over the weekend! A group of bloggers and myself met up for brunch and I must say I was very impressed with the food.

I had never been to The Morrie before so I was very excited to try their food and check out the venue.  Upon my arrival, I was greeted by very friendly staff and an amazing atmosphere.  The venue is decked out with some awesome graffiti, Andy Warhol-esque artwork and tons of Vinyl records.  Since I love music, it was so much fun to look around at all of the vinyls they had on hand.  Plus it makes for a great backdrop for pictures!

They also had a stage in the back of the restaurant with some really neat graffiti.  They did not have any live music while we were there, but from their website, it looks as though they have shows at least every other night, if not nightly.  AND they hit a wide variety of genres of performers, so there is a lot to choose from.  I am thinking I might have to check out one of their shows next month.

For brunch, we all were given a choice from their breakfast menu.  They had a wide variety of options from the healthy egg bowl to the not-so-healthy chicken and waffles.  For my meal, I had the French Toast, thick-cut bacon and the sweet potato tater tots.  I also enjoyed a mimosa while I was there because what is brunch without a good mimosa?

My French Toast was so delicious! Not only was it thick cut, it was cooked on all side.  There is something so delicious about French Toast that is crunchy from all sides.  And their pairing with maple syrup made for a wonderful breakfast.

The bacon was your standard thick-cut bacon, so I enjoyed it very much.  But I have to say my favorite part of my meal was the sweet potato tater tots.  I have always been a huge fan of tater tots, so I was excited to see they offered them as a side.  I was even more excited to see they had a sweet potato option.  The tater tots were so good I ended up sharing them with everyone just so they could see how good they are.

From a price point, The Morrie falls on the pricier side (with some dishes hitting $20+), but I would 100% pay that much if I were to go there again.  Not only is the food wonderful, but the atmosphere and the service is excellent.  In fact, I'm going to see if my girlfriend wants to meet up there next month some time! We try to have brunch together once a month and this is a great half-way point for us both.

The Morrie is located at 511 S. Main St, Royal Oak, MI, and can be reached at (248) 216-1112. Its hours are 4-10pm, Mon.-Wed.; 4-11pm on Thurs.; 4pm to 2am on Fri.; 12pm to 2am on Sat.; and 10am to 9pm on Sunday.

Owlcrate March 2017: Sailors, Ships & Seas

Hi everyone! Happy Tuesday! I hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday so far and are looking forward to a fun and exciting day.  Michigan is finally seeing some warmer weather so I am looking forward to putting my winter coat away and getting out my Spring gear.

If you haven't already, make sure to enter my $20 Amazon giveaway in my St. Patrick's Day post.  The giveaway ends on Wednesday @ 11:59 pm so don't miss out!

Today's post I wanted to share my March 2017 Owlcrate! This month's theme is:

Sailors, Ships & Seas

I am super excited about this box because I love all things nautical and ocean related.  If you are not sure what Owlcrate is, it is a monthly subscription book-themed box that comes with a Young Adult Book and other fun theme-related trinkets.  Some of my favorite trinkets have been candles, bath bombs and jewelry, but there are all kinds of great items available in each themed box.

For March, our theme was Sailors, Ships & Seas so of course the items are all Nautical in nature.  Here is a list of the items I got in my box:
  • Pendant Necklace from The Geeky Cauldron // I can't find the exact item and it looks like they're not selling at the moment.
  • Octopus Notepad from BoyGirlParty // Check out their website for tons of cute items! I am thinking about buying another notepad with a cat on it and maybe this t-shirt.
  • Mermaid Washi Tape from Simply Gilded // I found the Washi Tape in a set listing on Simply Guilded's Etsy shop.
  • Tea Towel from KitchStudios // Here's a link to the exact Tea Towel Owlcrate sent us! I am super excited to hang this towel in my kitchen.
  • The Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller // Here is the synopsis: "Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map―the key to a legendary treasure trove―seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship."

This box was so much fun! I am excited to start using my items and reading the book! I am planning to take it to Florida with me next week when we head down there for a wedding.

If you are interested in getting your very own Owlcrate, go to www.owlcrate.com and check out their subscription services.

To see my past Owlcrate reviews, you can catch them here.

If you are an avid reader and want to connect, find me on Goodreads! I am always happy to connect with other book lovers.

Up Next Month...

I am excited because this book is going to be a contemporary book that celebrates some of the most iconic couples in Young Adult literature.

25 Things to do this Spring

Happy Monday friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend filled with fun and exciting things! This weekend was spent with friends and family and is exactly how I would have wanted to spend the weekend!

How many of you have seen Beauty and the Beast? What did you think? I am happy to report that I thought it was very good.  I won't say anything else, though, so I don't spoil anything.

Today is the Spring Equinox which means we have officially hit Spring! So I thought for today's post I would share 25 fun things to do this Spring.  Most of these items are free or relatively cheap and can be done with people of all ages!

25 Things To Do This Spring

  1. Splash in a Puddle // April showers bring May flowers, right? So why not put on your favorite rain boots and go splash in a puddle?
  2. Plant a Garden // Whether your garden is filled with flowers or vegetables, the Spring is the perfect time to start planting your garden.  Here's a great infographic you can use to get started on your garden.
  3. Go Bird Watching // Warmer weather means the birds are out more.  Why not grab a pair of binoculars and go spot some birds? You can do this in your neighborhood or at your local park.
  4. Decorate for Easter // Easter is on April 16th! Do you decorate around your house for Easter? If not, check out this cute Easter Centerpiece
  5. Make a Bird Feeder // The birds will be making their way back from the South, so why not give them a little snack on their journey? Pinterest has some good and easy ideas for making DIY Bird Feeders.
  6. Spring Clean Your Home // Have you thought about what Spring cleaning will look like for you this year? I have not spent much time on it myself, but I know it is quickly around the corner.
  7. Decorate Easter Eggs // This was my favorite thing to do when I was kid so I am planning to do this again this year.  I might try a different tactic than the traditional vinegar and dye.  We will see though!
  8. Fly a Kite // Grab your kite, head to the park and fly away!
  9. Have a Rainy Day Movie Marathon // There is bound to be rain this Spring, so why not have a movie marathon? You could do a Harry Potter Marathon or you could do a Classic Disney Movie Marathon.
  10. Have a Picnic // Wait for a nice day, grab a blanket for the grass, pack up your Picnic Thermal Tote and head out for a nice afternoon in the sun.
  11. Visit a Botanical Garden // This is good for later in the Spring after the flowers have had a chance to bloom.
  12. Go to a Baseball Game // Baseball season is right around the corner {Let's go Tigers!} so why not go to a game or two this Spring before it gets too hot out? If you're local to Michigan, why not try out one of the minor league games?
  13. Go to the Zoo // The animals are going to start coming alive, so Spring is a good time to get out to the Zoo.  Plus, it will not be too hot.
  14. Swing on the Swings // Who doesn't love a good swing on the swings?
  15. Go to a Farmer's Market // If you love your fruit and vegetables fresh, then you should shop at a Farmer's Market.  Not sure where to shop? Check out www.localharvest.org - you can quickly find a list of local Farmer's Markets.
  16. Go to a Museum // Another great thing to do on a Rainy Day is go to a local museum.  You might be surprised what you see and learn while you are there.
  17. Play Miniature Golf // On a warmer day, head out to your local mini golf location and play some mini golf.  As it is in our household, loser buys ice cream.
  18. Grill Outside // With the weather warming up, get outside and make your favorite grilled food!
  19. Make Carrot Cake // With Easter right around the corner, why not make your favorite carrot cake?
  20. Reuse or Upcycle in honor of Earth Day // Earth Day is April 22nd, what can you do to reuse or upcycle this year? I'd love to hear some creative ways to reuse some household items
  21. Feed the Ducks // Next time you head out to the park, take some leftover bread or feed with you and feed the ducks.
  22. Celebrate Mom for Mother's Day // Mother's Day is May 14th this year.  What are you doing to do to celebrate your mom this year?
  23. Go to a Local Craft Fair // Craft fairs are great to find gifts for loved ones or for yourself.  Check out this site for places you can attend craft fairs in your area.
  24. Go for a Bike Ride // Grab your bike and your helmet and head out for a nice bike ride.
  25. Bake Cupcakes // Who does not love cupcakes? Why not make some and decorate them for Spring?

Book Outlet Spring Haul 2017

Happy Thursday Friends! I hope your week has been going well and you are looking forward to St. Patrick's Day tomorrow! Today I wanted to do a quick post about my last book haul! One of the things I have been working toward this year is reading more books.  Last year I made it a goal to read one book a month for a total of 12 books and I was able to meet that goal.  This year I have doubled my goal and set it at 24 books read in 2017.

Have you heard of Book Outlet? Please tell me you have! They are a website where you can buy books at severely reduced prices and most of them are in near perfect condition.  Since I am not too picky about my books being perfect {and I am cheap and like to save $$}, Book Outlet is the perfect site for me to get some books at great prices!

When it comes to reading, I tend to hang out in the Young Adult area, so imagine my thrill when Bookbub had a 70-80% off sale on Young Adult books! I managed to snag a bunch of books on my wish list {+ some I did not know I wanted} at a really great price! So today I thought I would share my findings with everyone!

{{{As a FYI, the book names will be all caps and will provide a link you can use to buy the book.}}}

Books Purchased Through Bookbub

  • THE ADORATION OF JENNA FOX, by Mary E. Pearson // The cover of this book is what drew me in and the description is what made me purchase.  I love a book that has a mystery that even the main character is not aware of.
  • DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE, by Carrie Ryan // Who doesn't love a book about getting revenge?
  • THE END OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, by Dee Ann Ellis // This one is a comedic paranormal book and sounded fun and entertaining.
  • EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU, by Nina LaCour // The cover caught my eye and the description made me click "add".
  • FOX FOREVER, by Mary E. Pearson // I grabbed this book because it is the 3rd book in the series.  I will have to grab the 2nd one from Amazon before reading this one.
  • THE GOOD SISTER, by Jamie Kain // Grabbed this murder/mystery book to see what happened to the good sister.
  • HOW TO SAVE A LIFE, by Sara Zarr // I am always drawn to anything that has to do with adoption.
  • ILLUMINAE, by Amie Kaufman // I grabbed this one because so many people had been recommending it.  And I am very glad I did.  I read the book and love it! Be looking for a book review later this month!
  • THE INCIDENT ON THE BRIDGE, by Laura McNeal // Another murder myster book that caught my attention.
  • LOUD, AWAKE AND LOST, by Adele Griffin // A story about lost memories and amnesia.  From what I've read, if you liked We Were Liars, you might like this one.
  • A MAD, WICKED FOLLY, by Sharon Biggs Waller // I love books set in the early 1900's so this one was a no-brainer.
  • PARANORMALCY, by Kiersten White // This one also came highly recommended from a book group I am in, so I knew I had to buy it.  I started it last night and so far I am really enjoying the book.  Will post a review at the end of the month.
  • SAY YOU WILL, by Eric Walters // I love light-hearted books and this one seems like it would be a fun, quick read so I grabbed it.
  • SWALLOWING STONES, by Joyce McDonald // I love stories where different characters end up intertwined with each other and this one seems to have a great storyline to it.
  • TANDEM, by Anna Jarzab // I kind of got an air of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children from the description and knew I had to add this to my collection.
  • WE WERE LIARS, by E. Lockhart // Another recommendation from my book friends and I must say it was good! You will never expect the ending.  Be looking for a more detailed review at the end of March.
  • THE WICKED WILL RISE, by Danielle Paige // This is the second book in the Dorothy Must Die series, so I grabbed it up at a great price + this series comes highly recommended.

So all together, I managed to get 17 books for a total of $41.08 + shipping! Honestly, I am very happy with how many I was able to add to my collection without killing my budget.

Question of the Day: What books are in your TBR pile?

I'd love to hear from you!

Currently: March 2017

Happy Thursday friends! I hope your week has been going well so far and you are looking forward to some fun plans this weekend! Today I am doing another fun round of "currently".  I came across this idea on Becca Door's Blog - you should check her out!

ANTICIPATING: Our trip to Florida at the end of the month! We are heading down there for his cousin's wedding and I am looking forward to some warmer weather than what we've had here lately.

CLEANING: Nothing too specific lately.  I really need to go through my craft room and start kicking butt on that space, but that is more purging than it is cleaning.  I also need to take my sewing machine in for a deep clean and fix.

DRINKING: I have really been digging the Cascara Latte from Starbucks and I think I have a few per week.  I appreciate that they are bitter with just a touch of sweetness to them.  It's the perfect drink on a cold morning.

FEELING: Excited.  Justin and I have been getting quotes for landscaping and a patio in the back.  I am hoping to get at least 2 more quotes before we settle with anyone.  But I am really excited with what we have seen so far.

WATCHING:  Honestly, I haven't been watching too much TV lately except for a few shows {This is Us, My Big Fat Fabulous Life & ANTM}.  Lately it's just been reading books which is always fun.

PLAYING: So we played Secret Hitler a few weekends ago with Kevin and Nick and this game is super fun! It's a game of wit and deceit.  Thankfully I managed to identify and kill Hitler twice so I felt pretty good.  If you're looking for a fun game that is a bit different, I highly recommend Secret Hitler.

READING: I just finished We Were Liars yesterday.  Oh my goodness that ending was NOT at all what I was expecting it to be! I really enjoyed the book and I actually might read it again to see if they give clues about the ending that I maybe missed.  I've also been listening to the Ranger's Apprentice Series with Justin.  If you like battle/fantasy reads, then I would recommend the Ranger's Apprentice series for sure.  Today I am going to start reading Illuminae.  This book came highly recommended by my friends at The Owlcrate Society so I am super excited to read this book!

RECOVERING: I have been fighting a cold/headache/allergies since early February.  With Michigan's weather floating between 30 degrees and 70 degrees in a week's time, my body is really not sure what to do.

TRYING: To spend more time doing what Justin likes to do.  We've both been so busy lately that it seemed only fair to spend time doing some of the things he loves doing.

WEARING: Whatever I could find.  We didn't have power this morning, so I was limited in what I could see.  Thankfully, I managed to grab an outfit I like and make myself look somewhat put together this morning.

Question of the Day: What do you have going on "currently"?
I'd love to hear from you!

Workin' It Wednesday: Balancing Home & Work Life

Happy Wednesday Friends! I hope all is well and you are having a great day so far! Instead of doing a Stranded With... post every month this year, Shay and Erika have switched things up and have come up with "Workin' It Wednesdays".  I am excited about this one because some of the topics look very interesting! Make sure to check out the link up and join in on the fun either in the comment section of my blog or my Facebook Page.  I always love hearing from you all!

For March we are covering...

Balancing Home & Work Life

This topic has been one that has been on my mind a lot lately, so I am glad this post is popping up.  February was a difficult month for Justin and I.  I started it out with the plague  a really bad cold that was going around my office, then I had a huge event the week of Valentine's Day that ate all of my time, then ended up with a secondary infection in my inner ear and generally felt like crud for the entire month of February.

I am not sure when, but I started to realize that I was not balancing my home life and work life well.  I would come home and completely crash because I was so stressed out and instead of getting things done, I would sit on the couch and watch T.V.  Not exactly productive, huh?

So throughout the month of February, I decided that it was time for me to take a step back and reevaluate my schedule.  On an average day, I leaving the house by 6:30 am, getting home by 6:00pm and was falling behind on all areas of my life.  So I decided in March that I would cut back on a few things and do a better job managing my time and so far I would say I've been fairly successful.  I eliminated my freelance writing through UpWork, created a cleaning routine at home then made a schedule for the entire month of March that has been helping me keep everything in order the last week.

But one of the biggest lessons I learned in February is that it is 100% okay to not have everything together all the time.  If you are an avid follower, you were probably disappointed that I did not post for the entire month of February.  Well let me tell you, I beat myself up every.single.day over the fact that I had not been dedicating time to something that brings me joy and connects me with others.  But I also learned to cut myself some slack.  There literally were not enough hours in the day for me accomplish everything I had piled on myself.

So I forced myself to take a step back and re-prioritize everything that I was doing.  And let me tell you, it is so rewarding to cut back on areas that are not necessary.  It is also so rewarding to take a step back and acknowledge that it is perfectly okay to not be perfect all the time.  When I did that, my whole world seemed less stressful.

Broadway in Detroit Announces 2017- 2018 Season!

Six “S’Wonderful!” Musicals on
Broadway In Detroit’s 2017-18 Subscription Season!

Hamilton coming to Detroit during 2018-19 season

“We’re really excited about the 2017-18 Subscription Season of six brand new musicals that will be making their Detroit debut, plus some extra shows that are perennial blockbusters,” said Broadway In Detroit Executive Director Alan Lichtenstein. “And we’ll have Hamilton on the 2018-19 subscription so anyone who becomes a 2017-18 subscriber and renews for 2018-19 will have first access to tickets to Hamilton.”

Broadway In Detroit 2017-2018 Subscription Shows

Love Never Dies, a story of boundless love, full of passion and drama, follows Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, one of the most successful musicals of all time, which has now been seen by more than 130 million people worldwide and is the winner of over 50 international awards. The ultimate love story continues in Love Never Dies. The year is 1907. It is 10 years after his disappearance from the Paris Opera House and the Phantom has escaped to a new life in New York where he lives amongst the screaming joy rides and freak shows of Coney Island. In this new, electrically charged world, he has finally found a place for his music to soar, but he has never stopped yearning for his one true love and musical protégée, Christine Daaé.

An American in Paris is the new Tony Award ®-winning musical about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war. Acclaimed director/choreographer and 2015 Tony Award ®-winner Christopher Wheeldon brings the magic and romance of Paris into perfect harmony with unforgettable songs from George and Ira Gershwin in the show that earned more awards than any other musical in the 2015 season! The New York Times raves “An American in Paris is a triumph!  Pure joy!” and the Wall Street Journal declares, “Once you’ve seen it, you’ll find it hard to settle for less ever again.”  Don’t miss this stunning Broadway hit when it appears in Detroit on its first national tour!

The Bodyguard, the award-winning musical based on the smash hit film, will star Grammy® Award-nominee and R&B superstar Deborah Cox.  Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer,
is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker.  Each expects to be in charge; what they don’t expect is to fall in love.  A breathtakingly romantic thriller, The Body Guard features a host of irresistible classics including “Queen of the Night,” “So Emotional,” “One Moment in Time,” “Saving All My Love,” “Run to You,” “I Have Nothing,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and one of the biggest selling songs of all time — “I Will Always Love You.”

The winner of Broadway.com’s Audience Choice Award for Best Musical, Finding Neverland “captures the kid-at-heart,” says Time Magazine. Directed by visionary Tony ®-winner Diane Paulus and based on the critically-acclaimed Academy Award ®-winning film, Finding Neverland tells the story behind one of the world’s most beloved characters: Peter Pan. Playwright J.M. Barrie struggles to find inspiration until he meets four young brothers and their beautiful widowed mother. Spellbound by the boys’ enchanting make-believe adventures, he sets out to write a play that will astound London theatergoers. With a little bit of pixie dust and a lot of faith, Barrie takes this monumental leap, leaving his old world behind for Neverland where nothing is impossible and the wonder of childhood lasts forever. Finding Neverland is “far and away the best musical of the year!” (NPR)

School of Rock is a New York Times Critics’ Pick and “an inspiring jolt of energy, joy and mad skillz!” (Entertainment Weekly). Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star posing as a substitute teacher who turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. This high-octane smash features 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber, all the original songs from the movie and musical theater’s first-ever kids rock band playing their instruments live on stage. Vanity Fair raves, “Fists of all ages will be pumping!”

From international superstardom to life-threatening tragedy, On Your Feet! takes you behind the music and inside the real story of this record-making and groundbreaking couple who, in the face of adversity, found a way to end up on their feet. From their humble beginnings in Cuba, Emilio and Gloria Estefan came to America and broke through all barriers to become a crossover sensation at the very top of the pop music world. But just when they thought they had it all, they almost lost everything. Directed by two-time Tony Award ® winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots), with choreography by Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys) and an original book by Academy Award ® winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman), On Your Feet! features some of the most iconic songs of the past quarter-century—and one of the most inspiring stories in music history
